Now that you have safety, security and diet down, you teach them to potty
Potty Training a Puppy
Potty-train a puppy is not that difficult! We were a little socked at the number of Google searches for this one, so, here is the foundation of potty training a puppy.
- You are in charge, the puppy will not know how to tell you they need to hit the head.
- Frequency, simply the more often you take your puppy out to potty, the better this is going to go. Remember, small bladder, guys, & no a puppy can not “hold it” this will happen naturally as your dog ages if you do this right.
- Consistency is the key, this means that if the puppy goes potty at 3pm, this happens every day at 3pm. Dogs are master of learning routines, Episodic Memory. So, the goal is that you are so consistent that your pup can predict when it is time to pee. Just like your dog knows when you come home or leave for work every day, they should know when dinner time is and when it is time for a puppy to go potty.
Personally having numerous dogs and having trained 100’s this is it. Simple way to potty-train a puppy. If you honestly follow this formula and are still having problems, then it is likely that your dog has a behavioral concern like fear or anxiety.
Pups need to be with their mom and the litter for a minimum of eight weeks, socialization between humans and dogs can begin at this time but, keep the pup with his or her family. Yes, your dog’s brain is developing at a fast rate during this period but, anxiety, aggression and other psychological disorders are not based on deficits in social skill. Social experiences for your pup should be safe and always supervised. Social interaction and experience should begin right away. We will teach you the proper method of introducing two dogs and how to properly introduce your puppy to people. No, this has absolutely nothing to do with sitting. It is important to know how to correctly teach your dog social skills, and can be dangerous if you do not know how to do this properly.
We are here for your puppy no matter what
Some dog trainers will not accept puppies beyond a certain age into puppy training groups, and that is fine. We teach your pup regardless of what challenges the two of you face.
Because we have more tools to work with and the fact that we set up our business for the best training, we can help your puppy with any obstacle without you being forced to choose between trying to socialize your puppy or help your puppy with other behavioral problems. We know that they are one and the same, not separate issues. As always, this training and treatment is designed just for you and your dog. If your k9 has other challenges, they will not be solved in puppy training group anyway.
